ITANAGAR, 23 May : More than three hundreds stray and pet dogs in various parts of capital complex has been vaccinated in last two days. The team of doctors, veterinary officers, members of NGOs, volunteers and others carried out vaccination in view of surge in dog bits cases in capital complex in particulate and state as a whole.
The mass vaccination drive for Anti Rabies vaccine (ARV) has been initiated after the commissioner AH, Vety and Dairy Development Bidol Tayeng assured the people to have patience and kept their pet animas safely and under safe custody and remain alert from the dog bites. Recently a state level coordination committee meeting was held at AP Civil secretariat which was attended by both Deputy commissioner of Papum Pare and Itanagar Capital Complex, members of NGO, officers of veterinary and Animal husbandry department, Itanagar municipal corporation (IMC) commissioner and others officers and other and issues several advisory for various department and general public to stay safe from the dog bits including the ARV vaccination drive for stary and pet dogs in the entire capital complex and also to those people who has been bite by the dog.
The ARV vaccination drive was jointly organised by Itanagar Capital district administration, department of animal husbandry and Veternary, Itanagar municipal corporation, Dog & Cat Rescue (NGO) Lekhi, Just be friendly (NGO) Guwahati.
Speaking to media, IMC senor Veterinary officer Dr. D Riba inform that its is necessary that every animals need to be vaccinated wither it is pet or stray. Due to surge in dog bits the department and state government has directed us to oversee the situation and as of now the situation is under control and we team of doctors and officer of various department are working in team spirit.
The officers and doctors of medical department are also doing their best effort and providing services required to the general public. He said.
It is a happy occasion the members of Dog & Cat rescue and Just be friendly (JBF) from Guwahati are also extending their support, cooperation and they are fully engaged in the vaccination drive. Today is 2nd day and the 1st day the vaccination drive was held at Nirjuli. He said.
Please do not create panic and everything will be normal and all the members of tem team are putting efforts to make successful and the work is in progress. It is requested that the pet owners can have their ARV Free of cost as state government has provide us and it is available in the government dispensary and the vaccination drive is in progress and it will continue also. As per record made available by the vaccination team 123 pet and stray dogs were vaccinated at NIrjuli on Tuesday May 21, on Thursday at Ganga Market and adjoining areas a total of 128 animals has been vaccinated, out of which 118 were pet dog and 10 were stray dogs. At Chandannagar, Police colony, Vivek VIhar and IG Park 46 nos of pet dog were vaccinated while 3 stray dogs were vaccinated on the occasion.
IMC Commissioner T Aran also visited the vaccination drive at Ganga Market area and lauded the team effort of the officers, doctors and other members including students.
In view of rise of dog bits cases in the state and capital complex the IMC is going to start with enumeration and further registration of pet animal in the entire capital complex soon. The dos and donts for enumeration and registration would be prepared soon. IMC Official sources added.
