Itanagar, June 13: Pema Khandu, having been sworn in for his third consecutive term as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, marked his first day in office by signing off on a significant financial initiative. He approved the release of Rs 100 crore under the Chief Minister’s Social Security Scheme (CMSSS), aimed at aiding approximately 80,000 beneficiaries across the state.
The CMSSS, a flagship program of the state government, is designed to support the most vulnerable and marginalized groups in society, including senior citizens above the age of 60, widows, and differently-abled individuals. This substantial funding is expected to enhance their quality of life and ensure they live with dignity.
Chief Minister Khandu emphasized the importance of continuing such beneficial schemes without interruption, particularly given the delays in state budget preparations due to the recent general elections. “Considering the fact that preparation of state budget has been delayed due to the general elections, it is necessary that the benefits under CMSSS reach the needy beneficiaries at the earliest,” he stated.
The scheme, initiated by the Khandu government in 2019, ensures that financial aid is directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. In the last financial year, Rs 90 crore was allocated under this scheme, benefitting 56,030 senior citizens, 8,782 widows, and 3,950 differently-abled individuals.
