Itnagar police urge upon people of various walk of life to join hands in waging war against drug

ITANAGAR, May 21: Continuing the war against the drug menace in Arunachal Pradesh, the Itanagar capital police has also been fighting against drug menace, Capital police have arrested 16 drug peddlers and registered 16 case against them out of which 5 are females, said Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi, while briefing media on Tuesday.

The police have also seized around 500 grams of suspected heroin and more than 1000 grams of cannabis from their possession, Said SDPO.

Without disclosing names of drug peddlers and users, Dirchi informed based on the interrogation statement of an arrested drug peddler, 78 other drug users have been taken into preventive detention, whose counseling is going on at the moment.

As the traps were laid in different parts of the city based on information, on Tuesday morning police also held five drug users from IG Park under preventive detention, said SDPO.

Stating that capital police have been using two way approaches such as ‘humanity & legal’ to deal with drug peddlers and users, SDPO cautioned the drug users and peddlers to surrender themselves before the Police or else strict action would be initiated by registering a case. If they surrender then police would assist them, so that they can get rid of the drug addiction, he added.

In the meantime, SDPO further appealed to the students teachers, unions, IMC Corporater, elected leaders, NGOs and general public to come forward and contact police officers, nearest police station in case they have seen any kind of suspicious activities within the capital complex.
