Aggrieved Candidates Demand Fair Selection in Arunachal Police Recruitment Under Sports Quota

A group of candidates participating in the ongoing recruitment process for the police department under the sports quota in Civil Police, AAPBn, have come forward demanding the home department to ensure a free and fair selection process for meritorious sports persons. During a press conference held at the APC, Dana Tajo, a candidate, expressed grievances over the rejection of candidates’ certificates for various Karate disciplines during the recent document scrutiny.

The candidates alleged that the selection process was conducted without considering individuals who had won medals at the North-East games. Specifically, candidates possessing championship certificates in Shito-Ryu, Goju-Ryu, and Wodo-Kai Karate disciplines were not given due consideration in the recent recruitment, despite these styles being affiliated with the World Karate Federation (WKF) and National Karate Federation (NKF). The aggrieved candidates claimed that this exclusion deprived them of job opportunities.

Expressing their frustration, one candidate stated, “We are facing extreme injustice in the selection process of Civil Police, AAPBn & IRBN in Arunachal Police recruitment.” They pointed out that the advertisement issued on June 29, 2018, did not mention the exclusion of NE game’s medal holders. Furthermore, they highlighted that on July 28, 2016, the Directorate of Sports had issued an order including the four different styles of karate in the meritorious sports quota.

The candidates also brought attention to the fact that the department had previously rewarded medalists of various karate championships with cash incentives. In light of these achievements, they questioned how individuals excelling in the same discipline could be considered non-recognized during the recruitment process.

The candidates concluded by threatening to initiate a democratic movement if the state government failed to address their demands. The concept of the sports quota appointment, they argued, is to provide job opportunities to deserving sports persons, and they called for a fair resolution to their concerns.
