AAPBSU Calls for Inquiry into Firing Incident and Boundary Dispute in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The All Arunachal Pradesh Border Students’ Union (AAPBSU) has called on the state government to establish a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the recent firing incident in Torajan village of Kangku circle in Lower Siang district.

Members of the AAPBSU visited the site of the incident and conducted a thorough assessment of the situation by engaging with the residents of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

AAPBSU Interim President Tarh Tagung, while addressing the media at the Arunachal Press Club (APC), accused Durga Bora from Dihingia village in Demaji district, Assam, of being the mastermind behind the incident. According to Tagung, Durga instigated innocent members of the public to demolish structures constructed by the villagers of Champak Chayo, Durpai, and Sogum villages in Kangku circle.

Furthermore, Tagung revealed that Durga, who is the Secretary of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, has a criminal background and has been incarcerated by the Assam police in connection with a rape case. He underwent a rigorous three-month trial.

AAPBSU announced that an FIR has been filed against Durga at Likabali police station for his involvement in the incident. The union stated that their field study indicated that the residents of Assam and Arunachal had been coexisting peacefully until Durga intervened.

According to AAPBSU, Durga manipulated and encouraged residents of Kechakatani, Panbari, and Moying Dhemaji in Assam to encroach upon land belonging to Arunachal Pradesh for his personal gain.

The union also revealed that the people of Assam attempted to construct a temple and houses within the territory of Arunachal, but the Assam administration itself dismantled the structures.

In addition to the demand for a high-level inquiry committee, AAPBSU is also urging the release of five Arunachal villagers who were arrested by the Arunachal Pradesh Police in connection with the firing incident. They are further calling for a re-verification of the Regional Committee’s report in order to find a permanent solution to the ongoing boundary disputes.
